The 71st Wallace Cup Race - Sept, 20 2008

Call for Wallace Cup Regatta Entries

The Oakland Yacht Club invites all PICYA Member Clubs located in the East Bay to compete for the W. C. Wallace Perpetual Trophy on Saturday afternoon, September 20, 2008.

Each club may enter up to three mono-hull, fixed-keel boats of at least 20’ overall length, each with a valid current PHRF certificate from the SF Bay YRA.  Each skipper must be the registered or documented owner of the boat and a member of the entering club.  Upon request made at the time of submission of the entry, the Race Committee may make adjustments to a yacht's rating for headsail size and spinnaker/non-spinnaker if the adjustment is obvious from the PHRF guidelines.

All boats will race in a single fleet in one race of about ten miles, unless shortened, in the South Bay, subject to time-on-distance PHRF handicapping, and there will be a single winner on corrected time.  This is, however, not a team race.  The Revised Rules of Sailing 2005-08 will govern.

The winning skipper’s club will be entitled to possession of the Wallace Cup for twelve months from the date of the race or until two weeks before the next running of the Wallace Cup Regatta, whichever is earlier, at which time the winning skipper’s club must return it to the OYC.  However, because the trophy is virtually irreplaceable, the possession of the Wallace Cup will not be transferred to the winning skipper’s club until Oakland Yacht Club’s Commodore is satisfied with the physical facility for storage and display of the Cup and with the insurance arrangements for it.

Entries must be received by the Oakland Yacht Club by mail, by hand delivery or by fax ((510) 522-7378) before the close of business on September 10 , 2007.  Race instructions will be mailed/emailed to each entered skipper and club by September 15 , 2007.

An entry form is attached and will be available on the Oakland Yacht Club web site.  There is no entry fee.  Entries will be accepted only from the clubs themselves.

After the race the Wallace Cup will awarded at OYC at 1800 hours as soon as any protest involving first place has been resolved.  Please contact Steve Shaffer (510) 368-5427 or steve {at} yabbb.org with any questions about the race.

We look forward to the competition and hope you will enter.

Sincerely,

Michael Jackson
